Cheese Boats

These cheese boats are absolutely delicious since whats better that a cheesy fluffy pastry with a crispy crust!

Makes about 8 large cheese boats

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water

  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 tbsp yeast

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 5 cups flour

  • 1 cup of shredded/cubed cheese of choice (I used a mix of halloumi and Akawi cheese NOTE:make sure that the cheese you use is low in salt otherwise soak your cheese in some warm water to reduce the saltiness)

  • 2 tbsp of black sesame seeds(optional)

Directions:

  1. In a bowl , mix the water, oil,yogurt,sugar, yeast, and salt until combined.

  2. Mix the baking powder with the flour and gradually add the mix into the wet ingredients until a dough forms.

  3. Add some flour onto a working surface and knead the dough for 10 minutes.

  4. After kneading, cover the dough and rest for 1 hour.

  5. While the dough is resting shred your cheese.

  6. Once the dough has rested, Flour your surface and portion out the dough into 8 equal pieces.

  7. Roll out the pieces of dough into ovals and place a good amount of cheese in the center.

  8. Pinch the edges of the oval to seal the dough.

  9. Sprinkle somme black sesame seeds on top of the cheese.(optional)

  10. Place the boats on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes at 180 degrees celsius .
